It is the most common reason for visiting a gynecologist, and according to studies, it is estimated that 75% of women will suffer from vaginitis at some point in their lives, perhaps more than once. This alone is reason enough to get informed in a timely manner!
What is vaginitis
Swelling, itching, burning sensation, increased vaginal discharge with a characteristic odor and color, as well as discomfort during sexual intercourse are signs that indicate vaginal inflammation. This is usually the result of an infection by bacteria, fungi, viruses, or other microorganisms, which either originate from the large intestine and end up in the vagina, or develop when its balance is disturbed.
Types of vaginitis
Depending on the microorganism responsible for the infection, we can distinguish the following categories of vaginitis: bacterial vaginitis, fungal vaginitis caused by the Candida fungus, trichomoniasis, and atrophic vaginitis caused by low estrogen levels during menopause.
10 tips for vaginitis prevention
This common genital infection can be easily prevented, provided you adhere to basic vaginal hygiene rules to avoid its unpleasant consequences.
- Always use a condom during sexual intercourse.
- Limit the use of tampons – only in case of emergency – and prefer sanitary pads, which you should change frequently.
- Wipe the genital area from front to back to prevent bacteria from feces from transferring to the vagina.
- Prefer comfortable and loose clothing – especially during the summer months – and avoid synthetic fabrics.
- Never lie on sand or a sun lounger without a towel.
- After swimming in the sea or pool, change your swimsuit without delay.
- Consuming foods containing processed sugar promotes the growth of fungi. Try to limit sweets and make healthier dietary choices.
- It is advisable to iron your underwear as high temperatures “kill” germs.
- Boost your immune system by adopting a healthier lifestyle. Lack of sleep and stress promote the growth of microorganisms.
- Last but not least
Daily vaginal care is crucial. Avoid using products that disrupt the natural flora of the sensitive area and prefer those that directly enhance the acidic vaginal pH and prevent the formation of a favorable environment for the growth of pathogenic microorganisms.
How to:
- Perform a wash 1-2 times a week with Eva Intima Normal Douche, which is designed to remove any accumulated secretions and odors from the vagina, while maintaining its pH at normal levels.
- Complete with Lactic Ovules once a week (preventively) or once a day for one week in case of vaginitis. Alternatively, you can use Lactic Gel with the same frequency. Both products should be applied before bedtime and ideally after intravaginal cleansing with Eva Intima Normal Douche.
If you notice any unpleasant symptoms, schedule an appointment with your gynecologist immediately.
