Renowned Gynecologist-Obstetrician Dr. Ilias Katsikis answers the most common questions women ask their gynecologist!
How often should I have a Pap Smear?
The examination and Pap Smear should be performed at least once a year to ensure that cervical cells have not been affected by any form of infection. It is very important for every woman, as part of prevention, to schedule a Pap Smear annually. From the observations of G. Papanicolaou until today, thousands of lives have been saved.
I have menstrual irregularities. Should I be concerned?
We start by investigating the causes of the disorder. First, a disorder is considered when the period occurs in less than 19 days or more than 35 days. With a clinical examination and a complete hormonal and biochemical profile, we can accurately diagnose the causes of the disorder. There is no cause for concern if the above steps are taken.
Is there a treatment for menstrual disorders?
Once the causes are identified, there are specific treatments to restore the cycle to normal and correct all associated clinical disorders. The solution is not the use of contraceptive pills that are usually prescribed.
